Penhaligon’s of London at Saks Fifth Avenue (San Francisco)

21 Dec

A couple of weeks ago I attended a special event for “Penhaligon’s of London”,  at Saks Fifth Avenue in San Francisco. Penhaligon’s of London is a lovely British perfume company established in 1872 by the brilliant William Penhaligon. They’re perfume is made from the finest rare ingredients – like hand squeezed bergamot and jasmine twice the price of gold. The scent of their perfumes is so intoxicating, you won’t want to stop smelling yourself.

I was treated to a one-on-one perfume consultation, by the ever so knowledgable Brian Kurtz (Marketing Director for North America). Brian took the time to explain the rich history of the Penhaligon’s of London brand. The brand has been around for ages. Winston Churchill wore Penhaligon’s of London iconic “Juniper” scent. The packaging is Ah-mazing! Each bottle is so unique and special, with a color coded label and matching ribbon. The bottles are perfect for any perfume collector. The packaging also bears the official royal seals from Prince Phillip and Prince Charles. It’s all so old world England. I love it!

After walking through roughly ten different scents, I couldn’t make up my mind as to which one was my favorite. And then it happened. Brian took out a gorgeous little bottle from a red box, slipped off the top, and handed the bottle to me. I inhaled a glorious smell – filled with citrus, nutmeg, and ginger. I had found my “love scent” …….Penhaligon’s of London – “Malabah!”  It was so divine! It instantly became my new favorite scent. Which is saying a lot, since I’ve been rocking the same perfume (Quelques Fleurs) for the past 10 years. No judgement, Quelques Fluers has been good to me. I’m anticipating Penhaligon’s London – Malabah to be even better! It really is the scent of the century. At least for me.

I strongly encourage you to stop by the Penhaligon’s of London perfume counter at Saks Fifth Avenue. Your nose will thank you!

*Special Thank you to Brian Kurtz – Sales & Marketing Director, North America for gifting me with the lovely Ladies Miniture Fragance Collection, Ellenisia Candle, and the Travel Atomiser. I will cherish them all!*

Saks SF Contemporary Week – Vote and Win $1000 Shopping Spree

29 Sep

I was invited by Saks Fifth Avenue (San Francisco) to participate in their Blogger Competition, in honor of Men’s and Women’s Contemporary Week!  The challenge – to incorporate this seasons hottest Fall trends.  Leather in rich hues, novelty denim, statement sweaters, and decorative fabrication (brocade). If you’ve ever stepped foot into the luxury store you’re already aware of all the gorgeous and lovely clothing, handbags, and shoes that surrounds you. It’s not hard to style amazing outfits when you’re choosing from a plethora of legendary designers. I mean its Saks 5th Avenue, need I say more.

For my first look I decided to go with an embellished parka vest, white & grey color-blocked blouse, and snakeskin printed pants. My second look I had to go with a lovely rich burgundy floral printed dress and pair it with a bordeaux colored leather jacket. I love how they both turned out. Don’t forget to stop by Saks SF (on Post Street) and vote for my looks on the 5th floor. You will also be entered to win a$1000 shopping spree!!!!

*Special thanks to Konrad Janus and Lauren Rosa Hernandez for all their help. Saks SF marketing team is as wonderful as they are fierce!*

Oscar de la Renta Resort Collection: The League to Save Lake Tahoe

8 Aug

Feast your eyes on this! Saks Fifth Avenue (San Francisco) launched the Oscar de la Renta 2013 Resort Collection in style. Looking at the photos you just might mistake the gorgeous backdrop for the French Riviera. I’m currently devising a plan at how I can attend this event next year!

“The  event on Saturday, August 4 held at the Schumacher estate located on the beautiful shores of Lake Tahoe in Incline Village.  The event was sold out with 550 in attendance and raised $500,000 for The League to Save Lake Tahoe

The annual event has been happening since 1969 and started with Bill Blass and Saks Fifth Avenue San Francisco on the sandy beaches of Lake Tahoe and has since grown into a must-attend event for Bay Area & Northern California socialites.  Marissa Mayer, Barbara Brown and Dede Wilsey are just a few notable attendees that came out this year to enjoy the new venue and view the Resort 2013 Collection of Oscar de la Renta on the 68’ runway with Lake Tahoe as the backdrop. Representatives in attendance from Oscar de la Renta included Eliza Bolen, Executive Vice President and daughter of the legendary Oscar de la Renta. ”

Special thanks to Ryan Williams for the stunning pictures!

Interview w/ Couture Designer Talbot Runhof

22 Nov

It's not everyday you get to meet a Couture Designer who's designed gowns for Oprah, Carrie Underwood, and Jenifer Lopez! This past Thursday I had the honor of meeting with German Couture Designer Adrian Runhof who designs Talbot Runhof with Johnny Talbot. I was unable to meet with Johnny Talbot because, he had to return to Germany earlier in the week. Armed with my notebook and pen in hand I sat on a white plush couch ready to ask a million questions of the insanely talented Adrian Runhof. He was very gracious, polite, and charming. I thanked him repeatedly for taking the time to meet with me. Once we wrapped with Q&A. Mr. Runhof  personally walked me through his entire couture collection explaining every garment in great detail! Talbot Runhof gowns are exquisite! Its hard to miss the carefully, precise, design silhouettes of each gown. The couture collection was very feminine and sultry. The draping, deep jewel color palette, and floral prints were so enchanting I began to think I was walking in Marie Antoinette's garden. However, don't mistake the femininity of the gowns as too sweet there's definitely a modern edge to their gowns. Its evident that a woman's confidence in what she wears is very important to Talbot Runhof!

Question: How did you begin your career in fashion?

Answer: Wow! Do you really want to know that (laugh). I always knew I wanted to be in fashion my parents were in fashion. After graduating from college I created a small collection. I met Johnny while he was working as a electric engineer in Germany at a radio station. Johnny had always wanted to design clothing as well and took out a small loan to begin his first collection. It was a very brave thing for Johnny to do. We started working together after that.

Question:  Karl Lagerfeld is said to have drawn a 100 sketches a day for each collection he creates. How many sketches do you and Mr. Talbot draw for your collections?

Answer:  That's interesting that you ask this question.  Johnny and I don't sketch at all. We drape all of our gowns on our American model Megan. She comes to our fashion house and we drape fabric on her to create our couture gowns. Which creates all this beautiful drapping detail in each gown.

Question: On creating Women's gowns and dresses.

Answer:  Its important for a woman to feel confident in what she is wearing. A woman should feel proud and sexy in whatever she has on. Some women aren't comfortable with their arms so, we'll add sleeves and cap sleeves to our garments. We try to create garments that help women feel proud about their bodies.

Question: On relationship with your Clients.

Answer: We work really closely with our clients they are important to us and we want them to feel special. Recently, we had a model in NYC (she's the oldest working high fashion model by the way) call us up and say " I don't ever wear or buy dresses but, I must have this dress you have designed." The model was referring to a dress she had wore during a photo shoot.

Question: What was your inspirtation for Spring 2011?

Answer: We were inspired by "I Love Lucy" and old black and white films along with cipea. Do you see how the flowers resemble the stills from an old black and white movie.

Question: Chocolate brown is generally not a color used in Spring collections. How did you decide on that color?

Answer: Since old movies were in black and white we thought the chocolate brown would compliment the black and white color palette. We also think chocolate brown is a very beautiful color.

Question: On Talbot Runhof ready to wear dresses being versatile.

Answer:  You have a woman who works in the city but, lives outside the city she doesn't have time to go back home to change for a dinner date.  Talbot Runhof dresses are designed to take you from day to night but, in a very elegant way.  We like to use stretch wool and strech cotton for some of our dresses……. this fabric is very comfortable and creates a more flattering silhouettes for the female body.

I thanked Mr. Runhof  for the millionth time once our interview concluded. His response…"No, it was my pleasure and an honor to meet with you". What an amazing experience for me to have met him!

*A special thanks to Konrad Janus (Saks Fifth Avenue Special Events Coordinator) for letting me take up so much of Adrian Runhof time.

Girls’ Night Out – Saks 5th Avenue

18 Nov

Everything that sparkles is gold when it comes to fashion! I saw evidence of this last night during FabSugar Girls' Night Out at Saks 5th Avenue. As, I wandered around the store sipping on my bubbly and noshing on cumin flavored popcorn (the popcorn was pretty tasty) I was blinded by all the bling. There were sequined sweaters, purses, coats, and dresses. The hardest part of the evening was managing to take pictures of all the pretty and shiny things I saw without spilling my champagne or chocking on my popcorn. I must say my favorite pieces of the night were the Alexander McQueen brocade gold clutch and the Alice & Olivia sequined jacket. I think it's important to have one statement bling piece in your closet, something you're in love with and feel confident in. I did leave the store without purchasing a single thing but not empty handed as I was gifted with free swag ……a lovely snakeskin printed tote filled with goodies!
