LANVIN: Real People High Fashion (Fall 12)

30 Jul

Like I needed one more reason to love LANVIN! The Parisian fashion house took a non-traditional approach for their Fall 2012 campaign featuring “real” people instead of professional models. LANVIN drew inspiration from the very popular street blog The Sartorialist.  The Sartorialist is known for capturing the beauty of every day people rocking the most beautiful clothing. See we fashion bloggers are good for something. The creative director for LANVIN (Alber Elbaz) recently was quoted by women’s wear daily as to why he decided to cast “real” people instead of models…..“I was interested to bring these clothes back to the street somehow, and see them on different ages, different sizes.”

I do wish LANVIN would have been a bit more diverse in their efforts to cast different size “real” people. Most of the people featured in the campaign are still pretty. I guess we should be grateful for the small strides the fashion industry is making. Rome wasn’t built-in a day.

Kiki’s Kitchen: Sweet Potato Fries w/ Dill Dipping Sauce

28 Jul

The craze for sweet potato fries is taking over the menus of many restaurants. The first time I tried these sweet and salty fries was at Taylor’s Refresher in Napa Valley, CA. I was hooked after one bite! I decided to whip up a batch on a whim. I complimented the salty and sweet of the fries with a cool and refreshing dill dipping sauce. One word – YUM!

London Olympics 2012 Fashion (The Best & The Worst)

27 Jul

Fashion runs through many threads of our culture. Today the world’s greatest athletes graced the largest competitive stage at the 2012 London Olympics. Their talents and successes will be the main focus over the next two week. However we can’t forget about those snazzy uniforms. For years Fashion Designers have been tapped to design their perspective country’s uniforms. This 2012 Olympics run had some highs and very very lows in regards to Designer uniforms. Here are my picks for the worst and best uniforms for the London Olympic 2012. I’m still scratching my head at the uniforms for Spain. What in the mess?

The Best

U.S.A Ralph Lauren

U.S.A Nike

GREAT BRITAIN Stella McCartney for Adidas

JAMAICA Cedella Marley for Puma

South Korea Fila

ITALY Giorgio Armani & Prada

The Worst

No this is not a joke! One does have to wonder if Russian Designer (Bosco) was trying to play a joke by designing these crazy uniforms. I had to double-check my sources, just to confirm that these are indeed the official uniforms for Spain. Why didn’t Spain utilize one of their own talented designers? Surely Balenciaga would have been a more appropriate choice. These poor athletes. They look like they’re rocking a McDonald’s uniform along with a Dora the Explorer backpack. Not cute!

All Things Tapestry: Dolce & Gabbana A/W 2013

26 Jul

Be still my little tapestry filled heart! Dolce & Gabbana A/W 2013 Collection is Stunning! The models graced the runway wearing garments of luxurious black velvet, the finest silk, accented with gold embroidery, and exquisite victorian-inspired jewelry. The intricate details of each garment was influenced by Sicilian Baroque architecture. The delicate collars on the gowns resemble fine crafted window panes from the early 17oo’s. The lovely tapestry work on the shift dresses is just sublime. For some this collection might be a bit over the top but for me it’s perfect! Dolce & Gabbana created and designed a collection that is packed with statement pieces. Owning one of these gorgeous pieces would surely cause some serious closet envy among my fellow fashionistas.

DIY: Velvet Nails

25 Jul

The velvet manicure is a new trend that’s becoming all the rage for fall 2012. It’s a lovely and inexpensive way to step up your nail game. All you’ll need is your favorite nail color and bit of  “flocking powder” from your local craft store. I picked my flocking powder up from JOANN fabric.  Your nails will look like they were covered in the most luxurious velvet. Ooh lala!

Rockstar Living: Lenny Kravitz’s Old Crib

24 Jul

Ooo Wee! Nothing says rockstar more than a swanky NYC apartment! This triplex gem sets in the trendy Soho neighborhood of Manhattan. The insanely gorgeous apartment is three levels, 6167 square feet of living quarters, with an additional 3000 square feet for the terraces. Plenty of room to host the entire neighborhood of Soho. The dining room is my favorite room in the entire apartment, primarily because it reminds of Le Kong, a rooftop restaurant which use to be in the old Parisian department store La Samaritaine.

Lenny Kravitz’s former apartment can be yours for a cool $17.95 million. Oh to be famous, rich, and talented. I would settle for just being rich!

Giorgio Armani for Bruce Wayne: The Dark Knight Rises

23 Jul

Hey Bruce! I see you! The iconic Giorgio Armani was the force behind Bruce Wayne stepping up his suit game in the final Batman movie. Christian Bale’s character looked so incredibly dapper. His 2 button, made-to-measure, pin-striped suit was perfect for his billionaire executive persona. I really had to do a double take. Witnessing a man in well-tailored suit is a rare treat these days.

If you are interested in the “B. Wayne” treatment just contact your local Giorgio Armani boutique for an appointment. Sorry, mask and cape only reserved for The Dark Knight!

Kiki’s Kitchen: The World’s BEST Guacamole

21 Jul

Did you know it only take 5 ingredients to make the World’s Best Guacamole? No.You didn’t know that. Well me neither. I learned how to make an amazing guacamole while observing a waiter at a local restaurant in San Francisco. I watched has he sliced open a fresh avocado, chopped up fresh garlic, added fresh diced tomatoes, fresh cilantro, and squeezed the juice from a fresh lime right into a bowl. Notice the key word is “fresh”. I couldn’t believe how delicious it was! The only seasoning was salt and pepper. I make this yummy guacamole every time I have a dinner party. My guest always rave about it! It’s a simple recipe. Anyone can make the World’s best guacamole. All you need is FRESH ingredients. Let’s get into it!
