New Year’s Eve Wish List – Part Deux

21 Dec

Here's another New Year's outfit that's currently on my wish list! My two favorite pieces are the LANVIN draped silk blouse and the black suede FINSK shoes! Both items are currently out of reach for me as the LANVIN blouse sells for $1,200 and the FINSK shoes are $700. I can keep wishing for them though maybe if  I wish hard enough I will find them under the Christmas Tree.

TOPSHOP Unique S/S 2011 Collection

20 Dec

TOPSHOP Unique is near and dear to my heart as they offer beautifully designed clothing without the designer prices. This UK based company has made some pretty impressive strides in the last 5 years. TOPSHOP continues to show alongside Couture Designers at London Fashion Week each season. Their past collection for Spring/Summer is simply stunning! Head Designer Karen Bonser worked with her team to create an airy, vibrant, and fluid collection. Using silk fabrics that gives the illusion of having water or paint stains exploding onto each garment. Bonser’s inspiration came from mythical creatures and fairy dust. I would venture to say that her team completed their intended goal. You all know my infatuation with color and this collection definitely feeds my hunger for color! The silhouettes are so flattering with the fabric gracing the body in a cloud-like appeal. Anticipation will be high for this collection to hit TOPSHOP stores mid-February. For those of you who don’t live across the Pond or in New York you will have to order your favorite pieces online. Fashion is but a click away!

Early Christmas Gift – Laura Mericer

18 Dec

Christmas is not all about gifts but, I sure do love receiving them! I received this lovely gift enclosed in a red satin bag (very festive touch). It was a gift from someone very dear to me and knows me oh so well. I opened my package to discover this amazing jar of seduction! I put a little on my skin and was immediately transported to the year 1533 where Queen Anne Boleyn was lathering on almond coconut milk souffle body cream by Laura Mericer. I can see the Queen luring King Henry into her boudoir with the memorizing scent that saturates her skin. Snap! I am brought back to reality when I realize I am now attempting to lick the back of my hand mistaking the smell for fresh baked coconut and almond tea cookies. I wish my computer had a scratch n' sniff! This intoxicating sweet aroma is one for the ages. Possibly an age where a King would do anything to have you, including destroying his own kingdom! Ok, so maybe I'm being a bit dramatic but I am telling you this body cream is from another century.

Men Travel Too

17 Dec

I promised one of my reader's hubby (thx Gene) that I would feature this awesome inspired Dr. Bag! It really is one of the coolest weekend bags I've seen for men to travel with. It doubles as a briefcase and traveling bag. Peasants & Travelers designed the Urbane Village-Doctor's Bag out of cork, trimmed with leather, and gingham lining detailing the inside of the bag. This bag is for any man who wishes to handle his business with style. Unfortunately, the brand name has nothing to do with peasant prices, this little gem sales for $240!

The “IT” Bag

16 Dec

The "IT" bag for fall/winter is the SATCHEL, it's part handbag/ part shoulder bag. This beautifully designed satchel was delivered today by my lovely Fed Ex lady. I purchased it from an online store called ASOS.com based in the UK. I love the grey color and the suede is impeccable. It's the perfect size to fit all my goodies in. If you haven't checked out ASOS.com I strongly recommend that you do. It's an amazing website that has the best selection on all things fashion and their prices are pretty fantastic even with the high exchange rate for us Americans. Oh, I forgot to mention that ASOS has free shipping worldwide, now if that doesn't entice you I don't know what will. Delivery takes up to 7 business days since the goods are shipped from across the Pond.

Mommy Makeover

15 Dec

“This is so much fun”…was the repetitive statement that kept escaping my mouth every 5 seconds this past weekend. I was honored when one of my Readers, who had a baby 16months ago asked if I would assist her in a “Mommy Makeover!” I was so elated to do it since this is exactly the reason I started my fashion blog, helping real women look fabulous while being “on trend” (a fashion term for being in style.) My reader/friend possess a rare fun-loving, open-minded, and patient personality. She didn’t complain or object to anything I put in front of her….which made my job 10x easier. I started off going through her closet and throwing out anything that was an eye sore oops – I mean no longer appropriate for her to wear after 1982….ok I am sorry but, some of her clothes (the blue faded ribbed turtleneck that I wanted to set on fire) were outdated. However, she redeemed herself with a pretty stellar skirt collection. She has a great eye for skirts! I realized this was going to be an easy makeover since she really only needed a couple of staple pieces to bring her wardrobe current. I took her to Target and scouted out the sale rack (always shop the sale rack first) to find a couple of blouses. I stuck with a pretty basic color palette (black, white, dark green, plum) so, it would be easier for her to mix match her new clothing pieces with the old ones. She ended up spending a total of $220 on the following:

1. Grey Sheath Dress

2. Black Knitted Cardigan

3. White Collar Shirt

4. Black  Trouser Leggings

5. White Long Sleeve t-shirt

6. Black & White Knitted Blouse

7. Plum Argyle Sweater

8. Army Green Stretch Poplin Dress

9. Dark Green Wool Wrap Sweater

10. Chocolate Brown Turtleneck

11. White Tank Top

12. Polk a dotted White Silk  Blouse

Dark green, wool, wrap sweater paired with a long sleeve white t-shirt and dark rinse skinny jeans. The jeans were hers and the shirt and sweater are new. She’s ready for the ski lodge and hot coca with the hubby!

A polka-dotted printed, black, silk skirt paired with a white collar shirt and knitted black cardigan. The skirt was old and the shirt and cardigan are new. The black cardigan creates more slimming lines to accentuate her natural curves.

Grey v-neck sheath dress with black knitted cardigan. Both dress and cardigan are new. This is a classic and chic look that goes from day to night with ease!

Army green stretch poplin dress paired with dark green wool wrap sweater. Both dress and sweater are new. This is one HOT look and probably my favorite look on her!

Finding modern looking khakis is always a bit tricky. The pair on the left have a fuller leg opening which is not very flattering on her body type. It makes her look wider in the hips and thighs. I put her in a slimmer pair of khakis and paired it with a plum argyle sweater giving her a more clean and simple look.

The red tweed suit is too big and mature for her. It makes her look like Grandma Hattie. I paired the tweed jacket with a chocolate brown turtleneck and skinny jeans to create a more chic and youthful look. This is a look any woman can recreate….take an old suit jacket and pair it with your favorite pair of skinny jeans. Don’t forget the heels to turn up the heat on this conservative look!

Another wide leg pant disaster! These black pants are causing the same problem as the khakis too wide in the hip and thighs. I picked out a pair of black trouser leggings and paired it with a knitted blouse. I know there’s a bit of conservatory as to whether different body types should wear leggings but, I believe this picture proves my point that any woman can rock a great pair of leggings!

Put A Ring On It…..

13 Dec

As, Beyonce's iconic "Single Ladies" song says "If you like then you shoulda put a ring on it" or Brooklyn Bridge on it, or Batman on it, or a Tiger on it…..ok so maybe those aren't the actual lyrics from the song but, they sure would apply when referring to these killer two finger rings! The two finger ring is one HOT trend I don't see dying down anytime soon. How rad is the Brooklyn Bridge ring below?!
